Bill Passes In California To Penalize Hummer Drivers

Let’s give a big round of applause to AB 493, California’s Clean Car Discount Act, was just approved by the California State Assembly Transportation Committee.  The bill gives one-time only rebates to people who purchase new fuel-efficient vehicles while forcing gas-guzzler buyers to pay.  This transfer, in essence, takes money from the pockets of Hummer drivers and puts it into the pockets of the eco-conscientious Prius drivers.  You have got to love the spirit of this idea!  I think Hummers should be outlawed altogether.  They are the epitome of an American attitude that simply must change.  Still, this is a step in the right direction and deserves mention.  Paying an extra $2500 to drive the gas guzzler that defines you will not entirely keep egos in check, but I guarantee it will be cause for hesitation.
